From Yorkville to Sugar Grove
A Context Sensitive Solutions Project
The Illinois Department of Transportation is conducting a study for the
improvement of IL Route 47 from Kennedy Road in Yorkville, to Cross Street in
Sugar Grove. The purpose of the study is to identify roadway improvements that
will accommodate projected increases in traffic in this rapidly growing area.
In addition to serving future traffic demands, this project will coordinate with
other improvement projects along IL 47. For example, a project is currently
underway for the widening of IL 47 to five lanes through downtown Yorkville.
That five lane widening will be taken into consideration as we move forward with
the Yorkville to Sugar Grove study.
The current study will be carried out following Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS)
policies adopted by the Illinois Department of Transportation. These CSS
prolicies are intended to ensure that the proposed improvements are designed as
to preserve or enhance the valued characteristics of the project area.
The involvement of the public is an important part of CSS projects. In the IL 47
study, two advisory groups will be formed. One of these, a Project Study Group,
will include federal, state and regional transportation officials. The other a
Community Advisory Group (CAG) will include community members, local
transportation officials, and local service providers.
Other opportunities for public involvement will include public meetings, a
public hearing, and other meetings with the study team as appropriate. More
details about these opportunities will be posted on this website and announced
in local newspapers.
As the study progresses, this web site will be expanded to include the latest
information on the study. Please visit often to access the latest information.
The second public meeting was held on Wednesday March 14, 2012 from 4PM to 7PM at the Sugar Grove Township Community Building lower level. Electronic copies of the meeting exhibits, brochure and
are available on the
Study Documents page of this website.
