Illinois Highway and Street Mileage Statistics

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) annually publishes detailed information about the 146,000 centerline miles in the State of Illinois that are open to public travel. Information about the centerline miles are collected by staff throughout the 9 IDOT Administrative Districts.

The Illinois Highway and Street Mileage Statistics publication contains information on the centerline miles totaled by IDOT District, county, pavement type, functional class, and urban areas.

Within each IDOT District and County, information
is divided into tables by road system (State, Toll, County,
Township, Municipal) and totaled by:

  • Pavement type and Jurisdiction

  • Functional Class
Centerline mileage is also totaled by:
  • State System by IDOT District

  • Functional Class by Urban Area

  • Federal-Aid Interstate Mileage by County

  • Federal-Aid Interstate Mileage by Interstate route number
