SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Transportation
announced today that highway construction work will be suspended,
where possible, on state highways to give motorists a break for the
Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Construction zones will be open for Christmas from the afternoon
of Tuesday, December 24, to midnight on Wednesday, December 25, and
for New Year's from the afternoon of Tuesday, December 31, to
midnight on Wednesday, January 1.
However, there will be some construction zones across the state
that will continue to have lane closures because of the type of work
under way. Motorists are advised to check IDOT's new traveler
oriented web site

for information on winter road conditions, road construction, etc.
Interstate road condition information is also available at
1-800-452-IDOT (4368).
In the greater Chicago area all lanes on the Edens, Eisenhower,
Stevenson, Kennedy, Dan Ryan and Bishop Ford expressways , as well
as I-80 and I-57, will be open.
Areas that will continue to have lane restrictions are:
FAYETTE COUNTY
- US 51/US 40 over Kaskaskia River at east edge of Vandalia.
Four lanes reduced to one lane in each direction.
HAMILTON COUNTY
- IL 242 over two unnamed creeks 5 and 6 miles north of
McLeansboro. One lane open controlled by signals.
IROQUOIS COUNTY
- US 24 over I-57 (Gilman Interchange). Lane width restriction
of 10'6", both directions.
JACKSON COUNTY
- IL 3, bridge replacement 1.25 miles south of Gorham. One lane
open controlled by signals.
JEFFERSON COUNTY
- IL 37 over Dodds Creek south of Mt. Vernon. Bridge
rehabilitation. One lane open controlled by signals.
LA SALLE COUNTY
- IL 351 over the Illinois River. Closed for bridge replacement.
Detour posted.
PEORIA COUNTY
- I-74 Washington Street interchange, Peoria, eastbound exit 93,
westbound exit 93B, closed for sewer installation. Westbound
traffic can use Adams St. fork, and eastbound traffic can detour
to Glendale Ave. exit.
- US 24 from Cilco Lane to IL 9 in Peoria. Roadway widening,
curb and gutter construction, one lane open in each direction.
PERRY COUNTY
- IL 154, bridge replacement 5 miles west of Sesser. One lane
open controlled by signals.
SALINE COUNTY
- IL 34, culvert replacement 3.5 miles NW of Galatia. One lane
open controlled by signals.
UNION COUNTY
- I-57 at mile marker 29. Bridge superstructure replacements.
All traffic on northbound lanes, one lane in each direction.
- IL 146, bridge repairs one mile east of Ware. One lane open
controlled by signals.
- IL 146, bridge replacement west of Jonesboro. One lane open
controlled by signals.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY
- IL 37, bridge replacement at the south edge of Johnston City.
One lane open controlled by signals.
