SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of
Transportation announced today that construction work on
state highways will be suspended, where possible, to give
motorists a break for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Construction zone areas will be open for normal traffic
patterns beginning Wednesday afternoon, November 27, and
will remain open until midnight on Sunday, December 1.
However, there will be construction zones throughout the
state that will continue to have lane closures because of
the type of work under way. Motorists are advised to slow
down and drive with caution through these zones, and are
reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect.
In the greater Chicago area all lanes on the Edens,
Eisenhower, Kennedy, Stevenson, Dan Ryan, and Bishop Ford
expressways, as well as I-80 and I-57 will be open.
Areas that will continue to have lane closures are as
follows:
ALEXANDER COUNTY
I-57 at mile marker 1, bridge
repairs, all traffic on northbound lanes, one lane
in each direction.
IL 127, one mile south of Sandusky,
bridge repairs, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
BUREAU COUNTY
Interstate 80 from mile marker 33
to mile marker 40, three sets of bridge deck
replacements, one lane open in each direction.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
IL 133 at the east edge of
Chesterville, bridge replacement, one lane open,
controlled by traffic signals.
FAYETTE COUNTY
US 51/US 40 over Kaskaskia River at
the east edge of Vandalia, road repairs, one lane in
each direction.
HAMILTON COUNTY
IL 242 over two unnamed creeks 5
and 6 miles north of McLeansboro, bridge
replacements, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
IROQUOIS COUNTY
US 45 near Del Rey, bridge deck
replacement, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
IL 49 north of Crescent City,
bridge deck replacement, one lane open, controlled
by traffic signals.
JACKSON COUNTY
IL 3, 1.25 miles south of Gorham,
bridge replacement, one lane open, controlled by
traffic signals.
JEFFERSON COUNTY
IL 37 over Dodds Creek south of Mt.
Vernon, bridge reconstruction, one lane open,
controlled by traffic signals.
LA SALLE COUNTY
IL 351 over the Illinois River at
La Salle/Peru. Bridge closed for replacement. Detour
posted.
MORGAN COUNTY
IL 104 over the Norfolk Southern
Railroad just west of Jacksonville, bridge
reconstruction, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
PEORIA COUNTY
US 24 from IL 9 to Cilco Lane in
Peoria, roadway widening, curb and gutter
construction, one lane open in each direction.
PERRY COUNTY
IL 154, 5 miles west of Sesser,
bridge replacement, one lane open, controlled by
traffic signals.
PIATT COUNTY
Interstate 72 at mile marker 165,
bridge repairs, one lane open in each direction.
SALINE COUNTY
IL 34, 3.5 miles northwest of
Galatia, bridge replacement, one lane open,
controlled by traffic signals.
UNION COUNTY
I-57 at mile marker 29, bridge
superstructure replacement, all traffic on
northbound lanes, one lane open in each direction.
IL 146, 1 mile east of Ware, bridge
repairs, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
IL 146 west of Jonesboro, bridge
replacement, one lane open, controlled by traffic
signals.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY
IL 137 south of Johnston City,
bridge replacement, one lane open, controlled by
traffic signals.
