IDOT ANNOUNCES ROAD CLOSINGS THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

SPRINGFIELD-The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that construction work will be stopped, wherever possible, to give motorists a break for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Construction zone areas will be open when possible for normal traffic patterns beginning Wednesday, November 23, and will remain open until Sunday, November 27, until 12 Midnight.

However, there will be construction zones throughout the state that will continue to have lane closures because of the type of work underway. IDOT is urging motorists to slow down and drive with caution through these zones. Holiday travelers are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect.

In the greater Chicago land area, all lanes on the Edens, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Stevenson, Dan Ryan, and Bishop Ford expressways, as well as I-80 and I-57 will be open, except for locations identified below. Areas that will continue to have lane closures are as follows:

  • Bond County:
    Illinois Route140 will be closed in both the eastbound and westbound directions at the Shoal Creek and Indian Creek structures, located west of Greenville. This road closure is necessary to perform bridge beam replacement. A signed detour route and message boards are in place to direct the traveling public.

    Christian County:

  • IL 48 at Stonington, culvert replacement. One lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.

    Cook County:

  • Grinding and hot patching on Lake Shore Drive (US 41) from IL 19 (Irving Park Road) to Foster in Chicago. NB & SB lanes.

  • Torrence Ave IL 83 at Kingery (I-80/94): Roadway and interchange reconstruction in Lansing. There will be two lanes in each direction before Thanksgiving with bridge, ramp and median work continuing.

  • Bishop Ford: Reconstruction in South Holland: Two lanes in each direction from 159th to I-80. Ramp from NB Ford to B 159th closed. Ramp from SB Ford to EB Kingery reduced to 1 lane.

  • IL 394: Reconstruction in Thornton and Lansing. One lane in each direction between Glenwood-Lansing Road and I-80. NB IL-394 to EB I-80/NB I-294 closed with Detour posted.

  • Kingery: Reconstruction in Lansing/Thornton/South Holland/Hammond/Munster: 3 lanes in each direction with some narrow lanes and lane shifts from US 41 (Calumet Ave.) in Indiana to I-94. 2 lanes in each direction from I-94 to I-80/294 (Tri-State Tollway). Ramp from EB I-80/SB I-294 to WB I-94 (Bishop Ford) closed w/detour posted.

  • Dan Ryan Expressway: Dan Ryan Expressway: Roadway reconstruction and resurfacing Cook Chicago Left lane closures on State from 71st to 87th and Lafayette from 71st to 99th/Wentworth Avenue. NB Halsted entrance ramp; NB 87th entrance ramp: NB 75th entrance & 71st exit will be closed. SB Wentworth exit ramp; SB 87th exit ramp; SB 75th exit and 71st entrance ramps will be closed. 76th Street Bridge will be closed. All four ramps at 55th/Garfield and at 47th will be open. SB 59th exit and NB 59th entrance ramps are permanently closed. SB 59th entrance and SB 63rd exit and NB 59th exit and NB 63rd entrance will be closed. Left lane and full closures on Wentworth & Wells from 63rd to 47th. SB & NB 51st St. exit and entrance ramps are permanently closed. NB 39th entrance, NB 35th exit, SB 35th entrance and SB 39th exit will be closed.

  • Dan Ryan/Skyway: Reconstruction at State St. exit from WB Skyway ramp will be closed.

  • Kennedy Expressway: Reconstruction at left and right shoulder closures at Nagle.

  • IL 53 to from Army Trail Road to IL 64/North Ave.: Widening and resurfacing in Addison. One lane in each direction.

  • Palatine/Willow Road: Bridge reconstruction in Wheeling and Prospect Heights. Express lanes closed at Il 83 and at IL 21 (Milwaukee Ave.) bridge.

  • Palatine for US 12 to US 45/IL 21: Variable width milling and bituminous concrete surface on Palatine Road from US 12 to US 45/Il 21 in Arlington.

  • Oak Park Ave. from IL 38 to IL 64: resurfacing in Oak Park. One lane in each direction.

  • US 12/45 (Mannheim Road) Over I-90: Bridge replacement and road/ramp reconstruction: one lane in each direction.

  • Lockwood Ave from 167th to 174th St.: pavement reconstruction in Oak Forest. One lane in each direction.

  • Grand Avenue: Relocation of 2 IHB Railroad tracks, 1000ft east to share the right-of way with CN and cross Grand Ave. at a single location on a new three track bridge over a new depressed roadway in Franklin Park. One lane in each direction. Detour is posted.

  • Oak Park Avenue from 111th to 115th St: Roadway reconstruction, curb and gutter, storm sewer in Worth: one lane in each direction.

    DuPage County:

  • US 20 (Lake Street) from IL 53 to Addison Road: Reconstruction in Addison: One lane in each direction.

    Effingham County:

  • I-57 & 70 milepost 158: Bridge replacement, two narrow lanes open in each direction.

  • I-57 & 70 milepost 160: Interchange work, North/Eastbound shoulder closed.

    Kane County:

  • Main St. Bridge over the West branch of the DuPage River between Walter St. & Chicago Ave: Removal and reconstruction of bridge in Carpentersville: Road is closed. Detour is posted.

  • Main St. bridge over the Fox River: Removal and reconstruction of bridge in Carpentersville: Road is closed. Detour is posted.

  • Bridge over Big Rock Creek; Granart Rd. from Jericho Rd. to Rhodes Rd: removal and reconstruction of bridge in Big Rock. Bridge is closed. Detour is posted.

    Lake County:

  • Fairfield Road and Ivanhoe Road: Intersection widening with pedestrian underpass in Wauconda. One lane in each direction.

  • IL 173 over Piscasaw Creek Overflow: Deckbeam replacement in Chemung. Shoulder is closed on westbound IL 137.

  • South Street over US 14: bridge repairs, removal, replacement of superstructure, abutments, slope walls, approach pavement in Woodstock. One lane in each direction on South Street.

  • IL 22 East of IL 43 to Ridge Rd.: Bridge replacement in Bannockburn and Highland Park. One lane in each direction.

  • IL 83 over the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Railroad: New Bridge Deck in Lake Villa, Loon Lake, and Antioch. One lane in each direction.

  • Deerfield Rd. from Wilmot Rd. to Park Ave: Widening and Resurfacing in Deerfield. Road closed, detour posted.

  • Port Clinton Rd. and Prairie Rd: Reconstruction of bituminous concrete roadway, removal and replacement of storm sewer system, sidewalks, curb, gutter, traffic signal modernization, street lighting and landscaping in Buffalo Grove and Vernon Hills. One lane in each direction.

    LaSalle County:

  • I-39, Milepost 60 to 67, bridge repairs, one lane open in each direction.

  • I-80 @ IL 351, Interchange reconstruction, WB on-ramp to I-80 Closed, follow posted detour. All other ramps are open.

    Livingston County:

  • I-55 Milepost 215 to 219, pavement patching, one lane open in each direction.

    Macon County:

  • Interstate 72 at IL Route 121 West of Decatur, mile marker 138: bridge rehabilitation. One lane open in each direction, ramps are open.

    Madison County:

  • Center Grove Road will be closed from east of Relocated Rte 159 to west of existing IL Rte. 159. A detour route is signed to direct the traveling public.

  • Spyglass Court will be closed from IL Rte. 157 to Butler Boulevard. A detour route is signed to direct the traveling public.

  • Staged construction utilizing temporary traffic signals will be encountered along Illinois Route 160 just south of Grantfork. This lane restriction is necessary to replace the existing bridge. A signed wide load detour is in place to direct the traveling public.

    McHenry County:

  • US 14 @ Mokeler Creek to n/o IL 173: Widening in Harvard: Traffic is shifted to the east side of the bridge with one lane open in each direction.

    Peoria County:

  • I-74, Westbound Entrance Ramp from War Memorial Drive (Exit 89) closed for pavement reconstruction. Motorists should utilize the newly constructed Sterling Avenue Interchange (Exit 88) as an alternate route.

  • I-74, Eastbound: Reduced to one lane at MM 85 for overhead bridge repair.

    Randolph County:

  • Staged construction utilizing temporary traffic signals will be encountered along Illinois Route 3 approximately 1-1/2 miles north of Ruma. This lane restriction is necessary to replace the existing bridge and is expected to be complete by November 2005.

    St. Clair County:

  • Stage construction along Route Illinois 157 near I-64 is reducing the number of lanes from 2 to 1 lane in the southbound direction.

    Union County:

  • US 51, Northeast of Cobden: Bridge construction over Drury Creek and the Illinois Central Railroad. One lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.
