I-55 at I-294 Interchange Reconstruction Project
To Finish Ahead of Schedule
SCHAUMBURG-- On October 14, more than two weeks ahead of schedule, motorists
will be able to use all ramps at the new and improved interchange between the
Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
By 5:00 AM Monday, all detours will be removed and the ramps from northbound
I-55 to northbound I-294, southbound I-294 to northbound I-55, and southbound
I-294 to Joliet Road will re-open to traffic.
The $12.7 million project was designed to reduce congestion and improve
safety where the two heavily traveled interstate highways meet. The major
improvements included the reconstruction of two bridges with additional lanes
No longer will traffic using different ramps be forced to merge into the same
lane as it approaches or leaves the I-294 toll plaza. Each ramp now has its own
dedicated lane.
