IDOT Announces Construction Lane Closures
over 4th of July Weekend
Suspension of Road Work Aimed to Ease Congestion, Improve Traffic Flow and Safety
SPRINGFIELD - With thousands of motorists expected to travel
on state roadways over the 4th of July holiday weekend, the
Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today
that road work will be suspended where possible for the weekend
to reduce potential congestion and improve traffic flow. The
advance notice of lane closures for the holiday weekend is
designed to aid motorists’ travel plans and improve safety.
“Independence Day is often celebrated with friends and family
usually traveling long distances to connect,” said Illinois
Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig. “With heavy traffic
expected over the holiday weekend, IDOT is providing a list of
closures in advance to help motorists plan their trips. With
less construction and heavy equipment in use this weekend,
traffic congestion can be reduced, and safety and traffic flow
will continue to improve.”
Starting at 3 p.m. Friday, July 1, IDOT will suspend all
non-emergency road work and open up all lanes where possible
until midnight Monday, July 4. Some construction zones
throughout the state will continue to have lane closures in
effect, due to the nature of some projects.
IDOT is urging motorists to slow down, obey posted speed limits
and drive with caution through work zones. Holiday travelers are
reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect
wherever they are posted.

Intersection of Glenview & Greenwood- intersection
reconstruction – staged traffic control – one lane open in each

US 12/45 over the SOO Line Railroad and Franklin Ave. - bridge

IL 251 over the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad
lines in Rochelle is closed to make structure repairs. Traffic
is detoured around the bridge on IL 38 and Jack Dame Road.
Rock Island County
I-280 from IL 92 to Airport Road at Milan has one lane open in
each direction; traffic using the westbound lanes as the bridges
on the eastbound lanes are being removed and replaced.
I-74 ramps at Seventh Avenue in Moline are closed while the
bridges over 19th Street are being replaced. Traffic is detoured
on 19th Street to the interchange at The Avenue Of The Cities.
Whiteside County
US 30 near the west edge of Morrison will have one lane open
with traffic controls and temporary traffic signals in place
just east of the Rock Creek bridge. Pavement is being removed
and replaced.
IL 40 two miles north of Sterling. Replacement of the bridge
over Elkhorn Creek will continue to allow one lane open with
traffic controls and temporary traffic signals in place.
Winnebago County
IL 251 at the Spring Creek Road interchange in Rockford. Two

over I-55/70. The exit and entrance ramps for I-55/70 will be
closed due to the bridge replacement.
15th Street will be closed from St. Clair Avenue to Baugh Avenue
in East St. Louis to replace the bridge carrying 15th Street
over I-64. St. Clair Avenue will also have a lane closed from
east of 10th Street to 18th Street; Baugh Avenue will have a
lane closed from 18th Street to just west of 15th Street in East
St. Louis to rebuild the 15th Street bridge over I-64.
Monroe County
IL 158 over IL 3 at Columbia, replacement of the bridge, one
lane will be open and controlled by temporary traffic signals.
