Night Resurfacing Project for I-55 to Begin After Memorial
Day Weekend
SCHAUMBURG--Beginning the evening of Tuesday, May 28, weather permitting, an
$11.5 million night resurfacing project will get underway for a 16-mile section
of I-55 from Willow Springs Road in Countryside to IL 126 in Plainfield.
Importantly, the work will be done during the overnight period when traffic
volumes are lower to reduce its impact on motorists. However, construction
congestion and delays due to the required lane and ramp closures are still
anticipated. Most of the project is to be completed by August 31.
The overall project is divided between two contracts. The first is for the
9-mile section of I-55 from IL 126 to Lemont Road. It begins the night of May 28
and continues until August 29. Lane and ramp closures can occur between the
hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM weekdays and until 12 noon on Saturdays and
Sundays.
The second contract involves the 7-mile section of I-55 from Lemont Road to
Willow Springs Road. From June 16 to August 31, crews will improve the area
between Lemont Road and County Line Road. The remaining section from County Line
Road to Willow Springs Road will not be done until the spring of 2003 so to
avoid conflict with the ongoing interchange reconstruction project for I-55 at
the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
Work on the first contract is being performed by a joint venture between
K-Five Construction of Lemont and Central Blacktop of Hodgkins and on the second
contract by Harry W. Kuhn of Wheaton.
