IDOT Halts Road Construction to Give Motorists a Break
this Easter Holiday Weekend
Motorists urged to drive safe and conserve fuel
SPRINGFIELD- The Illinois Department of Transportation is
working to make the trip a little smoother for those traveling this Easter
weekend. IDOT is opening up lanes wherever possible to ease traffic congestion
on roads throughout the state. The department is also urging drivers to take
steps to conserve fuel.
“Many people across Illinois travel to be with family and
friends for the Easter and Passover holidays. IDOT is doing everything we can to
make sure travelers get to their destinations safely and are not held up in work
zones, ,” IDOT acting Secretary Milt R. Sees said. “The Department will suspend
roadwork wherever possible to make for a smoother drive this busy weekend.”
As families prepare to take their holiday trips, the Illinois
Department of Transportation also wants to remind motorists of the following
tips for fuel efficiency:
-
Make Sure your engine is properly tuned
-
Check and replace air filters on a regular basis
-
Keep tires properly inflated
-
Use the recommended grade of motor oil
-
Do not exceed the posted speed limit
Motorists are advised to check IDOT’s website
http://www.gettingaroundillinois.com/ for information regarding road conditions
and updates on road construction. Interstate road condition information is also
available at 1-800-452-IDOT (4368).
Various Construction zones will be open for Easter Weekend from
3:00 pm Friday, April 6, through Midnight, Sunday, April 8. However, due to the
nature of some projects, there will be construction zones throughout the state
that will continue to operate. IDOT is urging motorists to slow down and drive
