Ramp Work for I-80 at U.S. 45 Begins February 16
SCHAUMBURG, IL -- On February 16, a $29.6 million road improvement
project begins its second and final year of activity with ramp work
at the interchange of I-80 at U.S. 45.
The overall project will rebuild this interchange and reconstruct
U.S. 45 from 179th Street to 191st Street. Advance work was
performed in 2002.
On Sunday, several changes involving the ramps at this location
will take place. First, the northbound U.S. 45 entrance ramp to
eastbound I-80 will be closed until late May, weather permitting.
Motorists will be detoured using the three loop ramps at this
interchange.
Second, the existing eastbound I-80 exit ramp to northbound U.S.
45 will be closed permanently. This traffic will be directed to use
a newly reconstructed and signalized ramp that will allow motorists
to travel both north and south on U.S. 45.
And third, westbound I-80 traffic will be able to use a newly
reconstructed and signalized ramp that will allow motorists to
travel both north and south on U.S. 45.
Motorists are advised to use caution in this area as new traffic
patterns are established.
Major pavement reconstruction on U.S. 45 is scheduled to begin
March 11. The project will be completed in early November.
