COLLINSVILLE, IL, October 22, 2003 -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will hold a series of three public informational meetings November 12, 13, and 19, 2003 in Columbia, Belleville, and Troy as part of the corridor protection study for a new transportation facility in the Metro East. The meetings will be held:

Nov. 12, 2003 4 - 7 pm
The Falls Convention and Conference Center 300 Admiral Weinel Blvd., Columbia
Nov. 13, 2003 4 - 7 pm Southwestern Illinois College Garden Room 2500 Carlyle Avenue, Belleville
Nov. 19, 2003 4 - 7 pm Triad High School Cafeteria 703 East Highway 40, Troy

The purpose of these meetings is to show alternate corridors for public comment. The corridors will be shown through the 37 mile long study area from the I-55/70 - U.S. 40 interchange near Troy in Madison County, south and west through St. Clair County, to I-255 near Columbia in Monroe County.

This is the second set of Public Involvement Meetings. The first meetings were held July 7, 8, and 9, 2003. From those meetings, meetings with public officials, and review of engineering and environmental constraints, several alternate corridors have been selected for review and comment by the public. After reviewing the comments from the meetings on Nov 12, 13, and 19, a final 400 foot corridor will be selected. A Public Hearing will be held in early spring of 2004. This hearing will present the final 400 foot corridor for comment. The study is expected to be completed in late Spring 2004.

Handouts and display boards will be available for public review, as will information regarding engineering, environmental, and other important issues relating to the study. Representatives from IDOT and the consultant, MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., will be present to discuss the project and answer

questions. The meetings will be held in an open-house format, therefore no formal presentation will be made. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting in their area to provide their comment, input, and feedback on the study. The same information will be presented at each of the three meeting location.

The meeting sites are accessible to disabled individuals. If special accommodations are needed, notify the District Office at least three (3) days before the meeting so arrangements can be made. Special needs or requests can be made by telephone at 618-346-3161; by fax at 618-346-3119; or by Teletypewriter (TDD) at 618-346-3396.
