CARBONDALE, IL -- The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold an open house public informational meeting on June 17, 2003 to discuss the study of a new access controlled freeway (Interstate 66) from Paducah, KY to Cape Girardeau, MO.

The public informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Shawnee Community College, 8364 College Road, Ullin, IL. The public is invited to attend at any time during the meeting hours.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and exchange information concerning the study of new highway across southern Illinois, and to receive public input on the proposal.

The TransAmerica Corridor (I-66) is proposed to span the country from California to Virginia. Exhibits will outline a proposed corridor through Massac, Pulaski, and Alexander counties and describe the area under study, according to Tom Zerrusen, IDOT District 9 Engineer.

Written statements will be accepted at the meeting and for 15 days after the meeting, and will become part of the official record. Written statements should be addressed to Ms. Beth Ponce, Program Development Engineer, 2801 W. Murphysboro Rd., Carbondale, IL 62901.
