CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police and hundreds of local police and sheriff’s departments today announced the kick-off of an all-out effort to take drunk drivers off Illinois roads this holiday season. The end-of-year campaign comes on the heels of data recently released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showing an increase in Illinois’ drunk driving fatalities during 2012.

The purpose of this meeting is to introduce the Springfield 3rd Street rail improvements, which will be developed as part of the Illinois Chicago to St. Louis High-Speed Rail (HSR) Program.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today announced that the Illinois State Police (ISP) and more than 200 local police departments will be out in full force before and during the Thanksgiving holiday to crack down on motorists not buckling their seatbelts or driving under the influence. The stepped up effort, during one of the heaviest travel seasons of the year, is a part of the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which is geared towards saving lives by encouraging seat belt usage by every motorist in every seating position.

With thousands of motorists expected to travel on state roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that non-emergency roadwork will be suspended, where possible, to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. IDOT also provided advance notice of lane closures that will be in place for the holiday weekend to aid motorists’ travel plans and boost safety.

Severe storms, generating tornadoes and straight-line winds moved through Illinois on November 17, 2013. A Gubernatorial Proclamation has been issued declaring the Counties of Champaign, Douglas, Fayette, Grundy, Jasper, LaSalle, Massac, Pope, Tazewell, Vermilion, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, Will and Woodford disaster areas as a result of these storms. To assist emergency response/relief, overweight and over dimension loads responding to these affected areas are hereby authorized to be transported on roads under jurisdiction of the State of Illinois with restrictions.

CHICAGO –Illinois transportation and law enforcement officials today joined forces to launch the “Ice and Snow - Take it Slow” winter campaign. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway and the Illinois State Police (ISP) are partnering to roll out the state’s frontline winter road crews and ensure that snow plows and other emergency equipment are ready for the upcoming snow and ice season.

MT. VERNON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces construction on I-57/I-64 in Mount Vernon is progressing on schedule. E.T. Simonds, the contractor for this project, is constructing the final phase of the northbound and southbound lanes of I-57/I-64 on the south end of the project. This work is expected to be completed by the beginning of December as originally scheduled.

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today announced that traffic pattern changes for the 2013 Illinois State Fair will be implemented starting Thursday, August 8, 2013 to boost safety and accommodate the parade along with anticipated traffic. Traffic patterns will be changed to a counterclockwise one-way pattern around the state fairgrounds starting from Thursday, August 8th to Sunday, August 18th. Portable changeable message signs will be located at the fairgrounds advising motorists prior to the traffic pattern change.

The “Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is paying close attention to motorcycle riders as Illinois crash data reveals the percentage of drunk motorcycle riders (motorcycle operators with a BAC of 0.08 or higher) involved in fatal crashes during late afternoon and early evening hours are more than double that of drunk drivers of any other type of passenger vehicle.

Dubbed “Total Recycle Asphalt,” the HMA paving mixture contains more than 97 percent reclaimed and recycled materials.

OTSD began in 2007 and, since then, annual teen fatality numbers in automobile crashes have dropped by more than half in Illinois.
