SPRINGFIELD – With thousands of motorists expected to
travel on state roadways over the Memorial Day
weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation
(IDOT) announced today that roadwork will be
suspended where possible this weekend to reduce
congestion and improve traffic flow.

MOLINE – Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider today congratulated the “2013 Airport of the Year” award recipients. Eight Illinois airports were recognized at the Illinois Aviation Conference, held in Moline earlier this week, for their accomplishments throughout the year, including an outstanding partnership with the state of Illinois and their commitment to customer satisfaction.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today announced the kickoff of the 2013 Click It or Ticket mobilization, running now through Memorial Day. Young males, 18-34, represented a third of the 955 people who died on Illinois roadways last year, accounting for 317 deaths.

For the 30th year, May has been proclaimed Motorcycle Awareness Month in Illinois as part of a statewide campaign to reduce motorcycle crash fatalities and injuries. Governor Pat Quinn, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education (ABATE) joined in support of campaigns to urge Illinois motorists to “Start Seeing Motorcycles” and “Look Twice - Save a Life.”

SPRINGFIELD- As part of a long-term commitment to sustainable
practices, IDOT is partnering with the Illinois Center for
Transportation (ICT) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
to fund $2.6 million in sustainability research over the next three
years, including $880,000 per year in fiscal years 2014- 2016.

SPRINGFIELD- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today announced plans to construct three overlay demonstration sections featuring the most environmentally friendly Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) surface mixture ever developed in Illinois and perhaps the nation. Dubbed “Total Recycle Asphalt,” the HMA paving mixture contains more than 97 percent reclaimed and recycled materials.

interstate construction projects to display the speed of approaching

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation, the Ford Motor Company Fund, The Allstate Foundation, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and the Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced the seven winning schools from the 2012-13 Operation Teen Safe Driving (OTSD) program. OTSD began in 2007 and, since then, annual teen fatality numbers in automobile crashes have dropped by more than half in Illinois.

MORTON – Governor Pat Quinn today announced an $86 million capital investment to reconstruct the I-74 and I-155 interchange and to reconfigure the I-74 and Morton Avenue interchange near Morton as part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today
kicked off the “Gear Up-Ride Smart” motorcycle safety campaign in
partnership with the Illinois State Police (ISP), Gold Wing Road Riders
Association (GWRRA) and A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education (ABATE).
The campaign promotes safe motorcycle riding through continued training
and use of proper gear and reminds all motorcyclists to get licensed,
get proper training, and keep motorcycle equipment well maintained.
“Gear Up – Ride Smart” also warns against riding after drinking.

CHICAGO – As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, the Illinois Department
of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police (ISP) and hundreds of
local law enforcement agencies urge motorists to plan a safe ride home
and never get behind the wheel after drinking. This weekend, state and
local law enforcement officials across Illinois will increase patrols to
crack down on drunk drivers as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get
Pulled Over public safety campaign.
