How to report Transportation Fraud


This is for anyone aware of or suspect the commission of fraud on transportation related projects funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation including fraud pertaining to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program, contact IDOT’s Office of Quality Compliance & Review. Allegations may be reported by anyone including DOT employees, contractors, or the general public. OQCR's Hotline is open 24 hours a day. Extensive measures are taken to keep all information strictly confidential. Anonymous and non-anonymous reports are accepted by both the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Office of the Executive Inspector General. We prefer that you report the allegation with your name and contact information as this facilitates a quicker resolution in the event we require additional information. This is especially true if you email your report. Please help us stop fraud, waste, and abuse by reporting in one of the following methods.

REPORT TO IDOT

  • Call: 1-800-455-5008 (toll free) you will have the opportunity to leave a detailed message.
  • Email to: DOT.FraudAwareness@illinois.gov
  • Mail To: IDOT Office of Quality Compliance and Review, Room 213, 2300 South Dirksen Parkway, Springfield, IL 62764 Or call 217-558-4617 between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and we will talk you through the process

REPORT TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The US DOT Office of Inspector General (OIG) also maintains a Hotline to facilitate the reporting of allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) programs or operations. You may report such allegations through the contact information listed below. Allegations may be reported by DOT employees, contractors, or the general public. OIG’s Hotline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is operated by a third party contractor.

REPORT TO THE OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE INSPECTOR GENERAL (OEIG)

Complaints regarding allegations of misconduct, fraud, waste, etc. may be submitted to the OEIG by anyone.  Complaints may be submitted anonymously.

To report to the Office of the Executive Inspector General, please do one of the following:

  • Call the OEIG’s toll-free hotline at 866-814-1113

  • Contact the Office via telecommunications device for the disabled (TTY) at 888-261-2734;

  • Mail a completed complaint form to:

If you file under certain provisions of the state and/or federal False Claims Acts, you may be eligible for a percentage of the proceeds (typically 15%-25%).
