Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is widening 3.5
miles of Illinois Route 3 from 2 lanes to 5 lanes in
Waterloo, IL. The work is being performed under two
contracts, Vandebrook Drive Relocation and IL 3 Widening.
The first contract consists of the relocation of Vandebrook
Drive. The second contract consists of the work associated
with widening Illinois 3 from 2 to 5 lanes and the
construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Illinois
Route 156 and Lakeview Drive.
The projects are located in Monroe County in the City of Waterloo. The Illinois Route 3 Waterloo Bypass handles approximately 15,000 vehicles per day and serves as a major thoroughfare for the community surrounding Waterloo.
The Vandebrook Drive relocation project was a $3.6 million dollar project on the January 18, 2013 construction letting. Construction began on July 8, 2013 and is expected to be completed by the winter of 2014.
The Illinois Route 3 Waterloo bypass lane addition project was a $17.6 million dollar project on the June 14, 2013 construction letting. The start of construction has not begun as utilities are currently being relocated. This project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2016.

Construction Progress: 10-29-13 Update
Vandebrook Drive: The contractor has performed earth excavation, constructed the 4’ x 8’ box culvert, and placed the subbase granular material. The project is 22% complete.
IL Route 3 Widening: The contractor has yet to begin due to pending utility relocation.
