PROJECT OVERVIEW
Purpose of the Plan
The purpose of the Illinois State Rail Plan is to:
- Improve mobility for passengers and freight on Illinois’ rail system
- Increase the effectiveness of the rail program
- Broaden understanding of rail issues
- Provide a framework to implement rail initiatives in Illinois
- Support IDOT in seeking federal and state funding
- Provide a gauge to measure rail benefits
- Fulfill new Federal requirements for state rail plans
