Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When should I expect traffic backups?
A: Temporary lane closures will occur on an as needed basis from
9:00AM-3:30PM on Monday thru Friday, and none on the weekends. Traffic
backups are expected when the contractor switches traffic to start staged
construction. Temporary Changeable Message Boards will be installed to alert
the motoring public on upcoming work.
Q: Will access to my business remain open during construction?
A: Access to each property will remain open at all times during
construction. When we move traffic into staged construction, if a property
has two driveways, the contractor will provide access to the property
through one of the driveways while the other is being constructed. Every
driveway will be wide enough to handle two-way traffic throughout
construction. If a property only has one driveway, it will be temporarily
widened during construction while the new driveway is constructed. Again,
two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
Q: Will the mailbox's along the roadway be replaced?
A: In coordination with the Post Office, mailboxes that are in conflict with
construction will be relocated as close to the original location as
possible. Mail service will not be interrupted throughout the entire
construction process.
Q: When will this project be complete?
A: The completion date for this project is Fall 2012.
Q: Will there be impacts to the motoring public?
A: Increased traffic volumes, stress and deterioration of IL Route 56
(Butterfield Road) is in need of repair and reconstruction is needed to
restore a smooth, safe ride for the motoring public. Major impacts to the
motoring public are anticipated. IDOT appreciates your patience and urges
the motoring public to begin to take necessary steps like alternate route
planning, car pooling, flexible work schedules, and public transportation to
avoid traffic.
Q: Will there be sidewalks and bikeways maintained throughout the
project?
A: Yes, sidewalks and bikeways will be accessible throughout the project
duration.
Q: Will there be impacts to the Forest Preserve Facilities?
A: Yes, the Forest Preserve entrances are scheduled to be reconstructed in
conjunction with the IL Route 56 project. However, access will be maintained
at all times.
Q: During construction can my Horse cross IL 56?
A: The equestrian trail will be accessible and maintained at all times.
Q: Will residents be notified in advance of when the streets will be
closed?
A: Yes. Local Access will be maintained at all times. Information on impacts
to the streets will be relayed periodically to the businesses and residents
through postings through this website, by distribution of flyers or
meetings.
Q: Will the project affect services currently provided by the police,
fire, & EMS departments?
A: No. At all times access for emergency related vehicles will be maintained
so construction will not affect those services.
Q: Will my trash services be interrupted?
A: No.
