Updated 10/22/12

Project Location and Description
Illinois 255 is a highway constructed on new alignment that is proposed to extend from Interstate 270 near Edwardsville to US 67 in Godfrey. The highway is being constructed in six sections from south to north and the first four sections are complete.

New Pavement Opened
The department is pleased to announce the opening of IL 255 from Seminary to Humbert Road on October 26, 2012. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening.

On October 20, 2006, the Illinois Department of Transportation opened the next section of this new 4 lane highway from IL 143 to Fosterburg Road in Alton.

Under Construction
North of IL 111, there are currently several contracts underway from Seminary Road to just south of Delhi Illinois. Most of this work is building the embankment for the mainline roadway. A total of 6 new bridges are also currently under construction.

The work on the flyover bridge carrying US 67 northbound traffic  onto the future IL 255 just north of the US 67/267 split is now open to northbound traffic.

The new section of IL 255 from Humbert Road to Illinois Route 111 is scheduled to be open late November 2012.

Upcoming Work
The contract to construct the pavement from Fosterburg Road to Seminary Road will go out for bid in the summer of 2007. Included in the Multi-Year Program is the construction of bridges to carry Wenzel Road over IL 255, to carry IL 255 over Humbert Road, at the Union Pacific Railroad. It also includes the earthwork and paving of IL 255 to US 67 with interchanges at Humbert Road and IL 267/111.
