Noise Wall Effectiveness - Scenarios

Openings, such as for driveways, allow noise to reach the receiver.

Receptors near the end of the noise wall receive less noise reduction as noise wraps around the end of the noise wall.

Noise walls have a zone of effectiveness, or shadow zone, which is generally within 200 feet of the noise wall. The figure at the right depicts the shadow zone area.

The aerial photo shows how less noise reduction is achieved as the distance from the noise wall increases.
