The Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) mission is to “provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity, and demonstrate respect for our environment.” During 2011 and into the future, IDOT relentlessly pursues this mission in order to provide the highest quality of service for the citizens of Illinois. IDOT, beginning in 2009, implemented the largest transportation construction program in the state’s history. The year 2011 represented the beginning of a new era in rebuilding existing transportation infrastructure while designing and constructing new highways, bridges, railways and airports to carry the Illinois economy into the decades ahead. As IDOT looks to transform transportation for tomorrow, the coming years will continue to bring innovation into Illinois’ transportation system through the efforts of IDOT’s staff, management, and the numerous partnering stakeholders.
