PROJECT OVERVIEW

Contract # 60I32 From Briarcliff Road to US Route 34

A need for action along the US 30 project corridor was determined in 1992 due to the following in Kane and Kendall Counties: Significant Growth, Land Development & Increased Traffic Volumes.

The project will be constructed in three stages. Temporary pavement will be utilized for this improvement. During Stage 1, vehicular traffic will be shifted to the south side of US Route 30 and construction activities will occur on the north side. During Stage 2, vehicular traffic will be shifted to the north side of US Route 30 and construction activities will occur on the north side. During Stage 3, the center median will be constructed.

The improvements to US Route 30 will improve safety for the motoring public and pedestrians and increase roadway and intersection capabilities. It will assist economic development and jobs creation for the adjacent communities.

Contract # 60I33 At IL Route 31 & Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad

The Phase I study for this Contract was completed on September 1996. The need for this improvement includes: Concerns about safety, traffic capacity and pavement and bridge conditions at this location.

There are three stages of construction proposed for this improvement. During stage 1, vehicular traffic will be shifted to the north side of US Route 30 and construction activities will occur on the south side. During stage 2, vehicular traffic will be shifted to the south side of US Route 30 and construction activities will occur on the north side. During the same stage, work on IL Route 31 will be performed. During stage 3, concrete medians on both US Route 30 and IL Route 31 will be constructed, permanent traffic signals will be installed on IL Route 31 at ramps C & D and final pavement markings will be placed.

This project will increase traffic capacity for the growing region, improve traffic safety for the motoring public, extend the service life of the bridge, improve drainage capacity and extend the service life of the pavement.
