Welcome to IL Route 64 Reconstruction and Widening Website!

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to reconstruct, widen, and resurface Illinois Route 64 from 7th Avenue on the western limits to Illinois 59 on the eastern limits. Illinois Route 64 improvements will include a bridge reconstruction, lighting, addition of retaining walls, and sidewalk additions. Illinois Route 64 construction will alleviate congestion and improve driver safety throughout the project limits.

The purpose of the $49.1 million dollar project is to enhance the flow of traffic and reduce the potential for accidents. The goal of Illinois Route 64 reconstruction is to provide a safer ride for the motoring public. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when workers are present. IDOT suggests using alternate routes and public transportation.

Stage 1 between Smith Road/Kautz Road and IL 59 is complete. Traffic is now riding on newly constructed pavement. Along with the completion of new lanes, limited access to Powis Road has been restored. As weather permits, construction on Stage 2 will continue through the winter.

WORK ZONE SAFETY
Did you know work zone fatalities are down 29.6 percent compared to 2003? Aggressive law enforcement and awareness campaigns and significant improvements to work zone safety traffic control reduced Illinois work zone fatalities from 44 in 2003, including 5 workers, to provisionally 30 with 3 workers killed in 2010. So, Give ‘em a brake…slow down for their sake and yours!

IDOT appreciates your patience and understanding as we work to improve the roadways in your community.

IDOT CONSTRUCTION ZONES
IDOT's new website provides up to date information on all current active construction contracts, including those funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, after contract execution.
